First renewal is CE-exempt. 18VAC85-80-71(D): a licensee is exempt from continuing competency for the first biennial renewal following initial licensure in Virginia. Up to 2 of the 10 contact hours may be satisfied by unpaid occupational therapy services for low-income individuals (1 hour of credit for 3 hours of service) and up to 2 by student supervision (1 hour of credit for 8 hours of supervision). Those are optional ways to earn hours, not required topics. Keep documentation for 6 years.
